Wishful Singing is celebrating its 20th anniversary! After more than 600 concerts in 15 different countries, the ensemble celebrates its 20th anniversary on home land with loyal fans from the very beginning and anyone who wants to get to know the ensemble.
The heart of the program includes texts and compositions by Hildegard von Bingen, a versatile genius of the 12th century. It was her enchanting chants that prompted Wishful Singing to dive deeper into the Gregorian repertoire a decade ago. Since then, the ensemble has been creating a new “buzz” around this cultural heritage with its concerts and online courses, including in collaboration with Herman Finkers. In his compositions, Ola Gjeilo reaches back to this ancient music, which still manages to touch.
Another highlight of the program is the new composition by Diederik van der Laag, written especially for the five singers of Wishful Singing. The work echoes the medieval hymn Ubi caritas et amor and takes as its theme caring and love.
Beautiful Scandinavian folk music and a selection of close-harmony arrangements make up the conclusion of the evening, during which Wishful Singing will of course perform some real audience favorites.
